Dover House in Putney Park Lane
Description
View of the rear elevation of Dover House, Putney Park Lane, Putney, seen across the grounds. In the centre of the building is the main doorway with a flight of four steps into the grounds, with a flat roofed porch supported by four circular pillars and a domed roof. On either side of the main building are single-storey wings at the extreme end of each are small buildings. Dover House dates back to 1797 when it was built by 1st Baron Dover. It was eventually owned by J. Morgan, an American businessman who purchased it in 1875. His grandson Jack donated Dover House to be used as a hospital for amputees during World War I. In 1919 it was purchased by The London County Council who proposed to build houses on the parkland. All that remains today of Dover House today is Regency Lodge and its gates. Both are Grade II listed; listing numbers 1357674 and 1184681.
