Description
View of shop fronts and street scene at Putney High Street, Putney, looking towards Putney Bridge. The building to the left is The National Provincial Bank on the junction of Norroy Road; the one to the right is the Putney Post Office on the junction of Disraeli Road. Street lights are in view, and to the right is a line of four horse-drawn Hackney Cabs, with Putney Station behind the camera. The pillar to the left is indicating a Gentlemen's Toilet on the glass of the lamp. Four women in long dresses are waiting to cross the junction of Norroy Road. Several horse-drawn buses further down the High Street are travelling in both directions. A number of pedestrians are walking along or crossing the road, and a man on a bicycle is going down the High Street. Shops include Parke's Drug Stores; Bond & Kedge jewelers and watchmakers with a clock above; and Edward Crook hatters, hosiery and tailors. All these buildings still exist but have been altered, the ornamentation on the roof of the bank has been removed and the three-storey building on the right has had the top floor removed.
