Title
Highwood in Portsmouth Road
Description
Highwood was one of the Victorian-era villas of Roehampton Park that once stood in the area now forming the eastern part of the Alton Estate conservation area of Wandsworth. Hindhead Point, built in 1952-3, now occupies Highwood’s approximate site, the surrounding landscaping retaining some of the planting of the former park but truncating the passage of the former Portsmouth Road. This view is believed to show a single-storey extension to the north of the villa with a plain looking entrance and rough brickwork, possibly exposed with removal of stucco, as the condition of the adjacent window aperture also suggests.
