Description
Prospect House, on Point Pleasant overlooking the Thames at Invicta Wharf, Wandsworth, is a villa thought to have been built in 1805-6 for a businessman. Described as a rare survivor of Georgian domestic architecture, it was Grade II listed in 1974, listing number 1184590. By the end of the nineteenth-century it was surrounded by industrial works including a brewery, a coal depot, a malthouse and a nursery. It now stands on a small plot of land surrounded by a perimeter hedge and modern apartment developments including Prospect Quay. This view, partly obscured by trees, shows part of its two-storey stucco east-facing front elevation, including its semicircular entrance porch, suspended on Ionic columns. The pilasters to each side have inscribed decoration. The dog shown sitting in the porch is believed to be a taxidermy exhibit mounted on a board.
