This view shows shops at 2-4 The Pavement in the Clapham conservation area of Lambeth in what appears to be a post-war building with ground floor front extension with patterned brickwork above number 4 and a set of slatted windows to numbers 2 and 3. To the left of view is a Fine Fare Supermarket, its full height display window showing an array of ‘BUDGET PRICE REDUCTIONS’ including ‘LARGE CHICKENS’ for 18p, ‘HAIG Gold Label Whisky’ for £2.54, and cod portions for 11p. Beyond, rows of non-diffused fluorescent ceiling lights extend to the rear of the shop, and some details can be made out through the window, including well-stocked shelves, shoppers, and shopping trolleys. To the right of view, a BMC van is parked in the street with one of its rear doors open. Beyond, the shop at 3 The Pavement shows ‘shoe rebuilders – repairs while you wait’ and ‘WHILE YOU WAIT HEEL BAR SERVICE’. Number 2 shows ‘EP president – printers stationers office supplies’. Motion-blurred pedestrians also shown include a person walking a poodle in front of the supermarket, a woman in a light overcoat, and a small child. The pavement has since been widened, the railings shown removed, and a bus stop and shelter now occupy the foreground space. The shops have also changed ownership.
