Title
Chestnut Lodge garage in Palace Road
Description
This view shows a disused garage believed to have served Chestnut Lodge at 48 Palace Road, Streatham Hill. Its stepped parapet hints at Art Deco styling. The windows of its timber doors have been covered haphazardly with corrugated metal sheets. The land once occupied by the garage and its driveway is thought to have been incorporated into the grounds of the neighbouring school. Chestnut Lodge was built in 1905 for WH Grant in 1905 by architects Bennett and Davies of Westminster and was Grade II listed in 2002, listing number 1359563. It was acquired by Lambeth Council, serving for a time as a youth club. It is now used as a day nursery.
