Front elevations of 177-189 Whitechapel Road, Whitechapel, looking north. At number 177 is Victoria Home for Men (a Salvation Army hostel) with Davenant Foundation School at number 179. The remains of the frontage of The Duke's Head public house, a Manns establishment, are at number 181. At 189 is a shop, once The Pavilion public house, with white painted first- and second-floor frontage. Cyril Dombey, a tailor selling men's fashions occupies number 185 while number 189 is the Hebrew Christian Testimony to Israel (HCTI) missionary organisation. A telephone call box stands outside.
