Title
House in Clissold Crescent
Description
A view of the front and side elevation of a detached house at 42 Clissold Crescent, Stoke Newington, occupying a large plot at the corner with Burma Road. The picture also shows a substantial end-terrace house at 47 Burma Road, with four storeys and a bay covering the lower and upper ground floors. At 42 Clissold Crescent, the eccentric, brick-built house has numerous ecclesiastical features, reflecting the taste of its designer and first occupant, eminent church architect James Brooks (1825-1901). Lower windows are boarded up and upper ones smashed. All have Gothic arches. The building shows signs of fire damage. Built c1862, the house has been restored.
