The church is based on designs by Edward Welby Pugin (1834-1875) and building work was completed in 1876. Number 31 Prescot Street is the premises of Charles Hersh and Sons Ltd. Number 30 Prescot Street Grade II listed; listing number 1065072. Church of the English Martyrs is Grade II listed; listing number 1241734.
