Description
Front elevations of terraced houses at 1-3 The Orchard, Ratcliffe, looking south towards Broad Street. The ground-floor windows have open wooden shutters. In the background is a partial view of the Marine Brewery at 52 Broad Street (renamed The Highway). The image is part of a set of pictures taken in 1907 during the construction of the Rotherhithe Tunnel (1904-08) documenting damage to properties. The street has been renamed Ratcliffe Orchard and the terrace was demolished eventually becoming the site of a Holiday Inn Express hotel. The photograph is stamped "Aug 29 1907".
