Title
Houses in Old Church Road
Description
Front elevations of terraced houses at 47-55 Old Church Road, Stepney, looking south-west. Number 55, appears to be derelict as the first-floor windows are all broken. The numbers "189 133" and "103 129" are chalked on the wooden boards covering the ground-floor window and there are faded signs on the upper floor for Hudson's soap, Sunlight, Bovril, Milkmaid full cream milk and Nestles milk. A passage with a cast iron lamp post leads to Head Street. Number 53 has an iron cross anchor plate on the side wall and has a sloping roof from front to back. The narrow street is cobbled and wet. The terrace was demolished and has been replaced by low-rise social housing.
