Front elevations of terraced houses at 5-11 Pier Head, Wapping, looking south. Fine Georgian houses, designed by Daniel Asher Alexander, they were built for the officials of the London Docks Company in 1811-13. Built of stock brick with stone cornice and brick parapet, they are three storeys high a basement, with a stone band above the ground floor, and a stone plinth with segmental arched basement windows. The ground-floor windows are round arched, recessed and set in wider brick arches. Ther are gauged flat arches to recessed windows on the first and second floors. The entrance to number 5, furthest from the camera, has a porch supported by two Doric columns. Behind the railings on the right, the area with mature trees is the remains of the filled in lock entrance to Wapping basin. In the background, on the left, is the Town of Ramsgate public house next to Old Wapping Stairs and behind that is Oliver's Wharf. Numbers 5-10 were Grade II listed in 1950, listing number 1065813. The iron railings (including lamp brackets) to 1-10 Pier Head were Grade II listed in 1973, listing number 1065811. In the centre of the image, the granite bollard (one of four) with iron knee was Grade II listed in 1973, listing number 1065805. The Town of Ramsgate public house was Grade II listed in 1973, listing number 1065804. Oliver's Wharf was Grade II listed in 1973, listing number 1065806.
