Description
View of houses at the corner of Hardinge Street and Ronald Street, Stepney, looking north-east. The Two Mariners public house at 15 Hardinge Street is just in view, with a barrow outside. Leading off to the right is 1-7 Ronald Street, with a man on the roof and a wooden ladder nearby. The corner shop at 13 Hardinge Street is a general store, advertising Craven A cigarettes, Bovril, and Mars chocolate. The female shopkeeper stands in the doorway. Next is 5-11 Hardinge Street with The Crown & Anchor or Mechanics Arms public house at number 3, a Mann Crossman & Paulin establishment. The road continues until it reaches Commercial Road and then into Jamaica Street in the distance. These buildings no longer exist and have been replaced by Bishop Challoner Catholic School.
