Description
The front elevation of 22 Forston Street, Hoxton, a two-storey terraced house with a stuccoed cornice, a mansard roof and a basement. The house has iron railings and steps up to the front door which is set in a rounded arch. The front door and windows are covered with sheets of corrugated iron. The photographer has left a small blackboard against the railings on which they have written 1059 22 / F/S F in chalk to assist with identifying the scene at a later date and to indicate that the buildings were earmarked for demolition. The ground floor of the building to the right has a large open door leading into a passage where a car is parked. Above the passage are signs for Hampstead Ruling Co. Ltd, Concord Contracts Ltd and Harris & Son Timber Ltd. In the foreground there is a spade on the pavement and a pile of sand on the road surface. These houses no longer exist; they have been replaced by modern two-storey residential buildings.
