Title
General view of Butcher Row
Description
A view of the east side of Butcher Row, Stepney, looking north, taken from Broad Street, latterly The Highway. A narrow cobbled street with two men in flat caps and two girls in petticoats posing outside a corner shop with the name Stepney Sanitary. Edwards Mansions can be seen just beyond a row of houses. None of these buildings exist today, the site being part of a much widened and realigned Butcher Row, and the modern day pink granite wall and lantern topped columns sitting above the northern entrance portal of the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
