Title
St George's German Church in Alie Street
Description
A front elevation of St Georges German Church, Alie Street, Whitechapel, looking north-east. This used to be known as Little Alie Street. The church masonry is stained with pollutants. A clock and tower above are present, but they have since been removed. A man is seen walking across the road and a sign for shaving is displayed on the newsagent opposite with a newspaper board for John Bull publication, stating 'Have You Seen Hairless Herbert?' Two front entrances of the church and ground-floor window have been cleaned of pollutants and are now white. Above the window is a new inscription which reads 'Deutsche Lutherische, Gegr. 1762, St Georgs Kirche'.
