Title
Pound's Buildings in Britannia Gardens
Description
A view of the terraced Pound's Buildings on Britannia Gardens in Hoxton. Houses surround an open courtyard with wires running between the properties. At the turn of the twentieth century Charles Booth described these houses as occupied by 'rough poor'. These buildings were replaced by the Arden Estate in the 1960s and Aske Street now occupies this site. The estate was designed by architect Leonard Manasseh, and represents one of his largest ever housing projects.
