Castle House in Walworth Road
Description
View of rooftop garden area at the rear of Castle House office block at 2-20 Walworth Road, North Walworth. St Mary's clock tower, demolished in 1971, can be seen in the distance. This section of Walworth Road used to be called Draper Street and ran between Walworth Road and Newington Butts. The office block was built in 1964, beside the Draper Estate social housing blocks, as part of the Elephant and Castle redevelopment. The Brutalist design was by Hubert Bennett of the London City Council’s (LCC’s) Architects Department and inspired by Le Corbusier. The office block has been demolished and replaced by new buildings.
