Interior of Castle House in Walworth Road
Description
An upper-floor lift lobby of Castle House office block at 2-20 Walworth Road, North Walworth. Two lift doors are visible. This section of Walworth Road used to be called Draper Street and ran between Walworth Road and Newington Butts. The office block was built in 1964, beside the Draper Estate social housing blocks, as part of the Elephant and Castle redevelopment. The Brutalist design was by Hubert Bennett of the London City Council’s (LCC’s) Architects Department and inspired by Le Corbusier. The office block has been demolished and replaced by new buildings.
