Elephant and Castle Development
Description
View to south-east from a high vantage point on Newington Butts, North Walworth, possibly the Metropolitan Tabernacle building, looking towards Walworth Road and Draper Street. The South Eastern & Chatham Railway lines run across the bridge over Walworth Road in the background. All of the buildings in the foreground have been demolished to make way for the Elephant and Castle Development. The development opened in 1965 and was one of the first American style indoor shopping malls, offering more than 100 shops on three levels.
