Interior of a building in Union Street
Description
Looking west at the south-west corner of an office at the east end of the first floor at 61 (174 until the 1860s) Union Street, Southwark. A double door giving access to the office at the west end has panelling with a large circular panel on each. A smaller door to the landing has vertically divided panelling. Both doorways have reeded architraving with rosettes in the angles. The doors have ceramic handles and fingerplates. The building was occupied by John Allsop, wholesale turner and brushmaker, from 1787 until the early 1880s, and then by Joseph Watson & Co, yeast manufacturers and bakers’ sundriesmen, until the 1940s. It is Grade II listed, listing number 1386009.
