Description
Houses in Wagstaff Buildings, Southwark, looking north towards Sumner Street from the corner at the southern end. The brickwork of numbers 7 and 8 is on the left. In the background is a gable-ended industrial building with a full-height sliding door of half the building's width, part of Arnold Goodwin & Son Ltd's engineering works in Sumner Street. On the right are weatherboarded houses numbers 2-5 (left to right), although number 2 has been knocked through at the rear and incorporated into the coffee shop at 6 Great Guildford Street. Numbers 2 and 3 have simple wooden door hoods. An iron bollard prevents carts proceeding south along Wagstaff Buildings beyond the engineering works door. A well dressed and well shod young man wearing a cap - possibly a schoolboy - stands in front of number 4. The entire site of Wagstaff Buildings was redeveloped and covered by the east end of Bankside House.
