Looking north-west at the front elevations of 2-4 and 6 Union Street (right to left), Southwark. The ground floor of number 2-4 (2 prior to street renumbering in the 1860s) is occupied by W. Shipp & Son Ltd, electrical goods supplier. Large plate glass window panes are between a part-reeded architrave. The doorway architrave has a consoles beside the transom light. A display in Shipp's window shows the company to be an authorised dealer of Wotan light bulbs, and a sign at first-floor level informs that D.F. Pullen & Co, office equipment suppliers, are to be found within. Standard Telephones & Cables Ltd is in the shop with shallow-bowed window at number 6 (formerly 3). A sign with STC's earlier logo hangs from an ornate bracket. Ornate semi-circular hoppers at the top of iron drainpipes capture water from holes through the base of the parapet. Rebuilding is in progress at number 8 (formerly 4) behind the facade; scaffolding supports working platforms, a debris shield, and bracing around the window voids. Half of the pavement adjoining number 8 is behind hoarding and consequently half of an enclosed walkway projects into the carriageway within which a wooden floor is provided at pavement level. Sandall Perkins, builders' merchant, is in the distance at number 18. Scaffolding is also erected at the side of 94/96 Borough High Street bracing the facade during rebuilding within. A Morris Minor 1000 Series V Traveller, Ford Granada Mk 1 Ghia, and moped are parked in front of the shops. A towable compressor for pneumatic tools is parked against a hoarding outside number 10. The site of numbers 10-18 was redeveloped with a single office building. Sandell Perkins, later Travis Perkins, removed to Redcross Way.
