Title
Buildings in Whitfield Street
Description
A view along Whitfield Street, Fitzrovia, showing four-storey buildings at numbers 145 to 157. The buildings are derelict and dilapidated, and numbers 151 to 155 have been demolished. The shops look abandoned with windows sealed or boarded up by corrugated iron sheeting; some are scratched and scribbled with graffiti. A man is walking on the pavement. Two cars are parked along the street. The BT Tower, formerly GPO Tower, is visible in the background. The street suffered severely from air raids during World War II; most of its buildings have been replaced. Nowadays, number 145 bears a brown plaque proclaiming that 'The First Settlement Of The Nepali Community Began On This Site In 1965'.
