Description
General view of houses in Grotto Place with some residents visible. Grotto Place, Southwark, was described by the London County Council Medical Officer of Health in 1910 as being 'quite worn out' and inhabited by the poorer classes. The houses were demolished c1914 and the site became an open space, later becoming part of the playing fields attached to the headquarters of the London Fire Brigade adjacent to Sawyer Street, Southwark Bridge Road.
