Houses in Empress Street
Description
Front elevation of 1-27 Empress Street, Walworth, looking west. Empress Street (originally Prince's Street) ran west from the Walworth Road under the railway viaduct to Pelier Street. Numbers 1-21 form a three-storey terrace built in the mid-nineteenth century, with rusticated keystones above the doors and windows. A small boy looks out of the door of number 3. Numbers 23-27 form a two-storey terrace. The buildings were demolished in the mid 1950s and the site now forms part of the Gateway Estate. To the left is the side entrance of 376 Walworth Road, a dental surgery. A car is parked on the street.
