Flower of the Forest public house in Blackfriers Road
View of Flower of the Forest public house at 123 Blackfriars Road, Bankside. The public house is being refurbished by Y.J. Lovell & Son. The vacant lot at 124, on the left of the picture, was the location of the Surrey Theatre, which was demolished in 1934 and is now occupied by a large billboard owned by AA Sites Ltd. Advertisements include Heinz salad cream, Odol toothpaste, Wincarnis tonic wine, Cocoa Flakes, Bovril, Mazda, Alexander's Ragtime Band, Rowntree's Cocoa, Australian butter, Coleman's vitacup and Minor cigarettes. At 122, on the right of the picture, is an amusement arcade with newspaper hoardings outside on the pavement. The buildings have since been demolished and redeveloped as McLaren House student accommodation.
