View of Bankside
Description
View of Bankside, possibly from Trig Lane Stairs on the north side of the Thames. A barge is moored on the river in the foreground and a tourist boat is heading down river. Along the river front from left to right, the low, white building is the Bankside Globe Playhouse (the predecessor of Sam Wannamaker's Globe Theatre). Next to that is Emerson Wharf at 42-44 Bankside (previously known as Stone Wharf), a shed advertising "Shakespeare Film Festival" (previously the location of Imperial Wharf and then a Southwark rubbish tip) then the headquarters of Willcox Hoses (previously British Lion Wharf) at 47-48. The tall white building is Cardinal's Wharf, number 49, and next to that is 50 and 52 Bankside (previously the offices of Samuel Isaacs Iron Merchant). Number 49, and the railing outside, was Grade II listed in 1950, listing number 1376548. Numbers 50 and 52 were also Grade II listed in 1950, listing number 1376549.
