Title
Houses in Tavistock Square
Description
A view of the front elevations of terraced grand houses on the east side of Tavistock Square, Bloomsbury, and the square's gardens. The gardens include a circular flower bed and lawn as well as mature trees. At least two people can be made out sitting on benches around a tree at the left and two more on a seat against the far hedge. The houses have four storeys over a basement and are three windows wide. First-floor windows are full height and Ionian pilasters rise through the first and second floors in the facade. The east side was the first to be built, soon after 1806, by the square's designer, James Burton. The terrace was demolished in 1938 and Lynton House, with retail space on the ground floor and offices above, occupies 7-12 Tavistock Square in the middle of the east side.
