Description
A view of the front and side elevation of a substantial shop building housing the home furnishing retailer Maples at 141-150 Tottenham Court Road, Bloomsbury, at the corner with Grafton Way. The building has three floors above the shop and features many classical elements, including Corinthian pilasters at ground floor level and a Greek key design at the roof parapet which is topped with urns. At the street corner at roof level is an open domed structure on columns. Several cars can be seen and there is a dustbin at the pavement edge. A lamp post in the middle of the road is protected by two bollards. It bears a fingerpost pointing towards University College Hospital. The building no longer exists and a later Maples House with shops on the ground floor and accommodation above occupies the site. Maples went into receivership in 1997.
