Description
A view of the front and side elevations of the shop of TW Thompson and Company, Tottenham Court Road, Bloomsbury, at the corner of University Street. The facades feature elaborate gothic elements with a vertical sign reading "Thompson" at the corner. The shop windows have signs reading "Xmas gifts". At the left of the image is the edge of the premises of James Shoolbred & Co, drapers and home furnishers at 151-162 Tottenham Court Road, which is surrounded by a hoarding. In University Street are signs for Ashmele Bros Ltd Upholstery, outside which are several parked cars. Three Belisha beacons can be seen in the foreground. The road surface of Maple Street in the foreground is cobbled. None of the buildings exist and later buildings housing shops and offices occupy the sites. In the distance part of University College London can be seen, which still exists. A banner hanging from the roof reads "UCH centenary" for University College Hospital.
