Title
Houses in Shrubland Road
Description
A view of front elevations of a pair of early Victorian semi-detached houses at 5-7 Shrubland Road, London Fields. The houses have two storeys plus a semi-basement. An unusual vase on a pedestal sits inside a recess where the front elevations of the two houses meet at the ground floor. Above at first-floor level is a cartouche with the name Rose Cottages and the date 1844. The theme of these two features is extended to a decorative element at the parapet including a wheatsheaf and swags. A mature tree stands in the garden of number 7, without leaves, and both front gardens are planted with shrubs. The houses no longer exist and a small local authority housing block stands on the site.
