The Metropolitan public house, 52-56 Southwark Street, Southwark. View of a row of buildings constructed in the 1860s after the laying out of Southwark Street by the Metropolitan Board of Works in 1864. The Metropolitan public house opened in the 1860s and occupied premises on the corner of Southwark Street and Southwark Bridge Road. It later became part of the Truman Brewery. Neighbouring five-storey commercial premises include Raybestos - Belaco Limited (brake and clutch linings) and Wrights Coal Tar Soap company.
