Title
Houses in Southall Place
Description
Southall Place, Tabard Estate, Southwark. View, looking north, of a narrow cul-de-sac used as a thoroughfare for pedestrians. The mostly two- and three-storey Victorian houses were found to be structurally debased and in a generally worn-out condition by the Southwark Medical Officer for Health in a report published in 1909. He also noted that the sewers and house drains were in a poor condition and that illness amongst the residents was at higher levels than across other parts of the borough. The houses were demolished as part of a slum clearance scheme in 1913. View shows the front of properties, some with boarded-up or broken windows and a cart is parked outside one house.
