Description
A view of Peacock Square, Southwark. The corner property, number 21 Peacock Street, looks dilapidated and may have previously been of a commercial rather than residential nature. There are two reinforcing wall anchors visible on the external wall and chimney pots of variable height situated on the roof. There are two adjacent derelict properties visible with three wall anchors and boarded up windows on the ground floor. These were subsequently bricked up shortly after this photo was taken and can be seen in images 114934 and 114935. There are dormer windows on the top floor which are either missing or broken. Many of the pantile roof tiles are also missing. Perpendicular to these derelict properties and backing onto the square is a tall building with only one small visible window. At ground level there is a low brick extension or outhouse with an open window. In the foreground there is a carriage style street lamp. This area was demolished and redeveloped into low rise housing with gardens, known as the Newington Estate, in the 1970s.
