A view of the Union Works building at 60 Park Street, Bankside, on the corner with Emerson Street. This is a Grade II listed building housing engineering works, built on an site adjacent to the historic Hope Theatre and bear baiting arena. The wider area, including the site of Union Works encompassed bear cages, dog kennels, ponds, stables and associated entertainment such as brothels and alehouses. This part of Emerson Street is now known as New Globe Walk in conjunction with the building of the New Globe Theatre nearby. On the corner of the Union Works building is painted signage pointing to Bear Garden Museum which was situated at this time on neighbouring Bear Gardens. On the corner and side elevation of Union Works is also signage pointing to the main entrance of Porn & Dunwoody Ltd, a lift manufacturing and installation company, since dissolved. The building has been redeveloped into residential accommodation and the rear aspect has been demolished and redeveloped into multi-storey residential accommodation known as The Bear Pit. Listing number 1385754. The Union Works signage painted above the roof of the building on the front elevation, no longer exists. On the street, there are several parking meters. There are cars parked at all of these, including a Mini, Austin and Ford Coupé.
