Buildings in Dolben Street
Description
View of front elevations of 2-9 Dolben Street, Southwark, showing a quiet street and a terrace of late eighteenth-century three-storey cottages with shops on the ground floor. Number 5 hosts the engineer and metal worker, E. Coules & Sons. Number 2 has wooden panelling on the shop front, and number 4 includes a pedimented doorway. Originally called George Street, its construction in 1776 was part of a development of the area following the erection of Blackfriars Bridge in 1769. The street was renamed Dolben Street in 1911 after the seventeenth-century archbishop John Dolben. Since the capture of this view, this section of Dolben Road has been demolished and renamed Brinton Walk, lined with residential buildings.
