Title
View of Date Street
Description
General view of Date Street, Southwark, showing a terrace of derelict two-storey brick buildings. Smashed windows can be seen of the first floor, with ground-floor windows completely or partially boarded up. A horse-drawn wagon can be seen on the right. Following the capture of this view, the area was demolished and replaced with better housing and a park, to improve the conditions of the local working class as part of Octavia Hill's social reforms. The park was named after the local scientist and Fellow of the Royal Society Michael Faraday.
