Title
Marshall's Charity in Newcomen Street
Description
The front elevation of 9 Newcomen Street, Borough, looking east.

The building dates from 1853 and from that date to 1967 was the offices of Marshall's Charity. John Marshall lived in Axe Yard (later Newcomen Street) and on his death in 1631, his property passed to trustees for various charities.

Marshall's Charity still exists and is based at 66 Newcomen Street. Inscribed across the front of the building in Gothic lettering is MDCXXVII John Marshall MDCCCLIII. The first, 1627, refers to the date of his will and the second, 1853, is the date of the building.

The building still exists as Mollison House but is empty and boarded at lower windows. A plaque for John Marshall has been added to the building to the right of the doorway.
