Title
Southwark Cathedral in Borough High Street
Description
The north side of Southwark Cathedral looking west along Montague Close, London Bridge. The cathedral is a Grade I listed building, list entry number 1378460, and was built between 1106 and 1897. Montague Close is boarded across and is flanked by derelict nineteenth-century warehouses: New Hibernia Wharf on the right and West Kent Wharf at the end of the street. The remnants of a cobbled street are evident, with numerous cars parked on the waste ground beyond. The warehouses were demolished in the late 1970s allowing expansion of the Cathedral grounds, and an office building, Minerva House, was built on the site of West Kent Wharf between 1979 and 1983.
