Title
St George's Rectory in New Kent Road
Description
St George's Rectory, 220 New Kent Road (south side), Walworth. The four-storey Rectory has bay windows at ground and first-floor level and adjoins a terrace of three and four-storey residential properties on the left. The Rectory was originally part of the Paragon, a semicircular terrace of houses designed by Michael Searles for the Rolls family and built in 1789-90. The Paragon was demolished in 1898 with the exception of the Rectory, and one elaborate gate pier marking the east entrance to the Paragon. By 2021 neither the Rectory nor the houses to its left remain, having been demolished to facilitate road widening.
