Description
A view of shops with two storeys of accommodation above at 75-85 Chalton Street, Somers Town. To the left of the picture is a cart with the battered logo of J Sainsbury, outside the shop's branch at 86 and 87. A step ladder stands on the pavement and a man is working next to it. The blurred figure of a man at a workbench in the kerb can be seen next to some crates labelled "pickled". At number 85 is a coffee shop advertising "tea, coffee, cocoa always ready". At 83 is a bootmaker and at 81, two women are cozying up in the doorway. After number 80 the buildings seem to be homes on the ground floor with three more storeys above. A sign over number 80 says it is to be sold or let. More trestles are visible in the kerbs. The buildings no longer exist and later renumbered buildings with shops on the ground floor and accommodation above have replaced them.
