Description
View of the front staircase inside the German Gymnasium at 26 Pancras Road, St Pancras. The picture is taken from above looking down to a landing, where the stairs divide into two. Stairs are lined with cast-iron balusters. The German Gymnasium was designed by Edward A. Gruning and constructed by Piper and Wheeler in 1864-65 as the premises of the German Gymnastics Society, established by Ernst Georg Ravenstein in 1861. It was restored and reopened in 2015 as part of a project using buildings around King's Cross Station. The German Gymnasium is now a restaurant with the address 1 Kings Boulevard. It was Grade II listed in 1999; listing number 1113243.
