View of the modernist Poplar Town Hall (Bow House) in Bow Road, Poplar, on the corner with Fairfield Road, looking west. The Grade II listed building entry 1393151, was built c1937. Seen adorned with bunting, flags of England, shields bearing the Union Jack and Queen Elizabeth II cipher, all probably in celebration of the coronation of 1952, with a with a Poplar Civic Theatre neon sign above the first-floor balcony on the corner. Vehicles seen in the street included a Charrington's Dennis Pax flatbed truck, possibly, an ERF flatbed truck, J S & S Morris, and Bedford box trucks, and a Vauxhall Wyvern saloon car along with a number 695 trolley bus, with an advert for Ben Truman pale ale on the side, probably bound for Bow bus depot in Fairfield Road. Pedestrians include a man in a London Transport uniform, and another speaking with a police constable, a woman pushing a pram, and a woman with a handbag carried on her arm, crossing the road. The administration of the area has now moved to Tower Hamlets, after merging with Stepney and Bethnal Green, with the town hall now serving as Bow Business Centre.
