View of the Grade II entry 1065275 statue of the former prime minister, William Ewart Gladstone at the west end of St Mary's Churchyard in the Bow Road, Poplar, looking east. The public convenience, with its entrance seen surrounded by railings, along with bollards and a monument of Joseph Dawson, behind, are likewise Grade II listed, listing number 1392968, 1262757, and 1393149 respectively. The island where the statue and the church are located, has numerous items of street furniture including an illuminated 'no entry' sign, a ornate double lamp standard, a cast-iron striped vent stack, a striped electrical cabinet and cast-iron and illuminated traffic bollards, seen with number 63 trams eastbound to Ilford, and westbound to Aldgate, passing either side. Three- and five-storey industrial buildings are visible on the left with the main hall of Bow Flour Mills in the distance, all of which have since been demolished and replaced by residential buildings and the interchange between Bow Road and the East Cross Route.
