Description
View of two-storey houses in the tree-lined Abbott Road, Poplar, looking east across the junction with the crossway to Leven Road, now named Darnaway Place, on the left, and Aberfeldy Road on the right. The shop on the corner at number 152 is seen in ruins, possibly due to enemy action during World War II, a fate that afflicted many buildings in the area due to the proximity to the docks. Only the window and door frame remains, with a low brick wall built on the periphery. The name over the door is illegible. Advertising hoardings on the wall on Aberfeldy Road feature Nugget shoe polish and Robin starch. Electrical contact cables are visible suspended high above the road, possibly for trolleybuses garaged at the nearby depot in Leven Road. Belisha beacons have been installed on three corners of the junction. The industrial buildings on the banks of the River Lea are just visible at the far end of the road. The houses have since been demolished, replaced by modern equivalents and the landscaping of Millenium Green of Aberfeldy Village development.
