House in The Grove
Description
Rear view of 6 The Grove, Highgate, taken from the garden. It is a semi-detached house built c1688 by William Blake. The lawn can just be seen in the foreground with stone paving leading to a low wall in a semicircular design. Steps lead up to a partially glazed door, and various shapes and sizes of sash windows can be seen. Several shrubs and plants flank either side of the garden. A smaller building is visible on the left, alongside a partial view of the neighbouring property. What appears to be drainpipes descend from the roof at an angle over the flat roof below. Towering above the tiled roofs are chimney stacks with chimney pots. Famous people past and present have lived along this street including the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, novelist and playwright J B Priestley and more recently Jude Law, Kate Moss, Jamie Oliver and George Michael. Number 6 The Grove is Grade II listed; listing number 1378981. So are attached railings, wall and lamp, and garden walls, terraces and steps of numbers 1-6 and garden arbour to number 6; listing number 1378982.
