Description
View of three-storey with basement houses at 1 to 22 Elm Road, St Pancras, looking west from the junction with Wrotham Road, formerly Loman Street. Numbers 16 to 22 are visible on left, with the c1863 church of St Thomas', Agar Town behind. The nineteenth-century brick houses have canted bay windows at the ground floor, heavy masonry entrance porticos supported on a pair of Tuscan columns at the front, with steps down to the street. Handcarts can be seen in the street, including a three-wheeled milk cart. Pedestrians visible include a woman in boots carrying a bag, a group of children dressed in winter coats, and a cat climbing over a low roll-topped garden wall. The houses and church were demolished from c1954 and built over as part of the ongoing Agar Grove redevelopment scheme for Camden Council, which includes the nineteen-storey Lulworth House c1962.
