Rear of Passfield Hall in Endsleigh Place
Description
View of the rear elevation of Passfield Hall at 1 to 7 Endsleigh Place, Bloomsbury, in the former Metropolitan Borough of St Pancras, on the corner of Taviton Street, looking south from the rear of 12 Taviton Street. The terrace of Grade II listed entry 1078297 c1825 Georgian town houses, built by Thomas Cubitt, was the London School of Economics (LSE) first residence. Opened in 1948 and named after the first Lord Passfield, Sidney Webb, one of the four members of the Fabian Society who founded LSE in 1895. The hardstanding is seen littered with a roll of carpet and building debris. The brick wall, seen in the foreground, retains the gardens, planted with mature trees and accessed via steps of the right-hand side.
