View of the tiled entrance lobby of the Grade II* listed entry 1113131 former headquarters of the London, Edinburgh and Glasgow Assurance Company at 30 Euston Square, formerly 1 to 9 Melton Street, in the former Metropolitan Borough of St Pancras, looking north toward glazed internal doors. The arched openings and square casement window, on the right, are surrounded by glazed ceramic tiles in an alternating pattern, with cast-iron radiators. The fireplace on the immediate left has a ceramic tiled surround decorated with logos depicting life, dependability and patriotism, and 'Edinburgh, London and Glasgow', above the marble recess and below a tiled pediment. The floor above is supported by cased beams, with decorative elongated plaster brackets either side beneath the ceiling's secondary beams. The mosaic floor has a clock design depicting the signs of the zodiac, with internal circular text reading 'Founded Anno Domini MDCCCLXXI' (1871), and a central company motif. The building was owned by the government from 1948 and subsequently served a number of purposes, including being a local office of the Department of Health and Social Security until the 1990s, and is currently the headquarters of the Royal College of General Practitioners as well as an events venue. The lobby has since been converted to a cafe.
